about

“Heterotopia” from Ponto Teatro
Soundtrack composed by João Dorminsky/Ex. Entertainment Excellence

Utopias comfort us, heterotopias unrest us. This is the warning by Michel Foucault, who formulated the concept of heterotopia from a Jorge Luis Borges text that made me laugh for a long time, not without a real malaise hard to beat. It is the performativity of this notion - which designates spaces of crisis and deviation or the superimposition of incompatible places and heterogeneous times - that Emanuel de Sousa explores on the stage, departing from texts by Tiago Patrício and the Bible Book of Revelation. Following U TO PIA TM and DYSTOPIA, premiered in 2013 and 2014, HETEROTOPIA closes the Trilogy of the Place in which Ponto Teatro experiments the intersection of dramatic and non-dramatic texts, classical and contemporary, and the contamination of various artistic languages such as performance, dance and video.

João Dorminsky is a a portuguese composer and founder of Ex. Entertainment Excellence.

Born and raised behind the screens of a prestigious film festival, his cinematic influence was always felt in it's earlier music, but the true recognition of it's origin had a late awakening, curiously due to his immersion in theatre.

Through the landscapes of "Dystopia", "Heterotopia" and "GH (Human Gender)" soundtracks, Dorminsky's music creates a film-like feeling on stage, from the dark-orchestral "batmanesque" ensembles, to the light angelical choirs of bulgarian singers, that blend seamlessly with his native electronic atmospheres.

In his teen years, through the moniker Pi, the artist self-described it's creations as a "sound diary", when he first experienced music in computers. For that moment on, music became a soul passion in search of a unique persona.

As the antithesis to radio airplay and overtly disposable music, Pi assumed its full form in 1999, when João Dorminsky began to develop its solo orchestra, inspired by everything but conventional music. After the release of 3 Pi full-length albums and side projects like Low-Class Suite, Punk Androids, Tigre Deficiente, Futura and Adamastor, between darkness and light, we have a glimpse of what's to come.
